Once again its time to grab your controller and head to
the skies. Only this time you donÆt have to do fancy spins and loops, I
mean there always good too, but this time you get to blast down enemy
planes! The original Aero Wings had some of the sleekest, fastest, most
advanced jets known to mankind. Now not only do you get to show off your
piloting skills, you also get fully armed combat! If you complete your
training missions you will unlock additional planes and flight arenas. You
will take control of the most swift and deadly machines on Earth and after
you have honed your piloting skills you will be an elite cadet ready to
take on one player missions or take down a friend in
multi-player.
This game has everything combat flight sim fans
could possibly ask for! It has realistic physics, accurate damage models,
stunningly detailed aircraft, deep flight control and total
customizability. You can choose from over 25 of the best Japanese and US
fighter jets including the F-1, F-2, F-14, UF-104J, F-15DJ Aggressor, F-16
and the F-86F. You can even see your aircraft from virtually any angle
using any one of the twelve (thatÆs right 12!) in-game camera angles, not
to mention the 20 Reply Theater camera angles! DonÆt forget that it has
standard or professional control sets, Blackout/Red-out, personal data (it
keeps track of flight time, kills, crashes, missions and hours flown by
all your pilots and even sorts them by plane type) and loose, tight, or
normal control response. It also has four modes of play, there is: Fighter
Pilot Missions; Tactical Challenges; Free Flight; and Vs
Mode.
In the Fighter Pilot Missions you join the academy as a
cadet and earn your wings by completing special control, tactics and
weapons training (my personal favorite). There are over 30 missions in
all! ThatÆs a lot of air time.
In the Tactical Challenges
mode you test your skills against the big boys and see if you can hold
your own. You can prove (or disprove) your skill in 15 unique flight
competition stages that put all of your training to the test. Just one
question, are you feeling lucky, punk?
In the Free Flight
mode you can just sit back, relax and soar in your favorite aircraft.
Whenever the intensity of the single and multi-player modes overwhelm you,
here is the place to be. You can choose from a variety of flight arenas,
the weather conditions and the time of day (just imagine night flying). If
you ever get a little lonely just flying around you can always invite a
couple of enemy fighters over to playà
In the Vs mode you and
a friend can go toe-to-toe or head-to-head (or belly-to-belly for all we
care) in a white knuckle, high altitude, high speed, missile-filled,
multi-player fun-fest! Just pick your planes, select an arena, set the
battle parameters and go!
Keep your eye out for this
intriguing title from Crave. The first one in the series showed off the
DreamcastÆs great graphics and speed, we only hope the sequel can do the
same.
